my floppy drive doesn't work

i am using ubuntu 12.04 LTS. my floppy drive is recognized in the system but when i put a disk in with information on it i get the message no media found or no media in drive. why does it know the floppy is there but won't let me use it to record info or read fron the disks? is there a way to fix th is problem? i use my floppy daily , when i get it to work.

Okay, the only way I could get this to work, was to create a mountpoint, like : /media/floppy And then mount it manually with :

sudo mount /dev/fd0 /media/floppy (fd0 is usally the device name for a floppy). This worked in Ubuntu 10.04, with exactly the same issue, so it should work in 12.04 too.
