What is the maxiumum number of network connections to a Desktop machine?

Asked by Mosh

As the summary - I may have to use an old recycled PC to act as a server and it may net meet the hardware requirements (see a separate question). If so, I am wondering if I can settle for installing Desktop as the machine will mainly be used for filesharing and backups anyway, with a little MySQL if I get the time. How many users can simultaneously connect to a Desktop machine via the network? Assuming there is a limit!

Many thanks.

Hi:

According to:
http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=331278
there is no limit, I haven't tried that yet, so I can't guide you in that. But I guess it could be, linux is used in many internet servers.
Hope that helps
