hardware compatability

Asked by bluestone

Greetings. This machine is a PII 350, a dinosaur by todays standards. What I'm wondering is if ubuntu will run on a ponderous beast like this? I'm in the process of downloading it but have started to wonder about it.

A friend has an older machine like this and is running Puppy, quite happily. He describes it as an ultralight OS. I couldn't say anything about ubuntu but I've heard allot of good things about it. I figured it's worth a shot.

This machine is running win98se currently. It is exhibiting traits of something like Hansen's Disease in that, day to day it keeps losing parts of itself and becoming unbearably slow. It's heart wrenching to watch, like a degenerative disease creeping up on my helpless computer, eating it from within like a Zerg infestation...Gods!!

Any help is appreciated.

you might want to take a look at xubuntu instead of ubuntu (ubuntu will run very slow, xubuntu is a more lightweight version), i would prolly recommend something like puppy linux instead though, its hard for anything to run on a p2 350 quickly (although i would at least try xubuntu first)
