Can the Panel be moved to the bottom of the screen?

Asked by Edd E

I am /very/ new to Linux in general so please phrase any answers accordingly. [I am a (recovering) long time Windows XP user but know next to nothing about any other O.S.]

My question is this: The Panel bar is at the top of my screen and this is confusing to me as i'm used to Windows' Start bar (as i term it) being at the bottom of the screen. (For clarity's sake, when i say Panel bar i'm referring to the bar that has the clock displayed in it.)

What i'd like is to see it stacked on top of the bar i think is called the Dash which is now at the bottom of my screen. (It's the bar that has icons for Show Desktop, Application Finder, and Trash among others.)

Would this be a major undertaking or is there a fairly simple way to change the view?

I'm running Xubuntu 12.04.2 if that helps.

Thank you for any and all help/suggestions you can provide.

https://sites.google.com/site/easylinuxtipsproject/xfce mybe this will help. In In summery you only must unlock the panel with right-click on it and then simply moce it ;)

With a little experimentation, i was able to move each component of the top "panel" to spaces on the bottom bar. I had hoped to have them both on seperate bars, both on the bottom, but i can live with this (especially knowing i can rearrange the elements if i need to in future to make them more comfortable for me).

Thank you very much, Phillip Sz, for leading me to this solution. It was even easy enough for this Linux neophyte to figure out!

If you want something Windows feeling, install Kubuntu. It is as supported as Ubuntu and Xubuntu but uses KDE.

Thank you, andrew-woodhead666. I may try that in the near future. Good to know i have another option. (Although, as i understand it, Linux is all about other options. ;) )
