Thanks for fast response this is my first time trying this software. I am using Microsoft Excel I can use any of the file extentions to save the file so any Microsoft file extention is OK for me

You can use OpenOffice.org suite for that. Do you have it installed ?

Check menu Applications > Office

just save the excel data file as xls on some external media, usb stick or something.
Once you have installed Ubuntu make sure you have openoffice installed
Plug in the USB drive which Ubuntu will autodetect.
Click the USB disk on the desktop and find the relevent xls file,
click on it to launch openoffice and hopefully your datafile will appear in all its glory!
Good luck

From menu: Applications->Office->Openoffice.org spreadsheet (Calc) open your .xls files
From menu: Applications->Office->Openoffice.org word processor (Write) open your .doc files
From menu: Applications->Office->Openoffice.org presentation (Impress) open your .ppt files

Thank you
