Newbie need help with opening port ubuntu

Asked by u

Hello all,

I really hope there is a easy solution for my problem since i feel like i searched all over the web but everything i tested didn't work.

I need to open port 8000 on my ubuntu computer so that i can read from an .xml file inside a folder. I want to put the adress of the .xml file in a webbrowser like for example 83.249.55.65:8000/foldername/filename.xml and get all the information written inside the xml showing in the webbrowser. <?xml version="1.0"?>

PLEASE if there is an easy way to do this post it step by step here since i'm going crazy been trying for days now.

Really thanks in advance

Hi thanks for the fast reply. i installed gufw and it found the port that i opened in ufw and the netgear router earlier but still i cant connect when writing in a webbrowser for example 83.249.55.65:8000/foldername/filename.xml.

Do i need to configure something in the folder itself? or what do u think the problem is?

hoping for another fast reply :)

Just wanted to add what i tried now. i deleted the old port and tried to open the port again via the gufw tool.

When i added the port via the simple configuration the tool accepted the rule and i can see the port 8000 active allow in anywhere but when i try putting the port with advanced option where i can add it to my computers ip number 192.168.1.100 where the folder and xml file are located i get message error performing operation.

What do i need to do?

The ports are all open by default in Ubuntu. If you use a router and want access to the home LAN from the outside then you will need to configure the router. Ubuntu(by default) will accept any connections. If you start adding firewalls then you will need to configure that too.

Maybe you don't have the permissions to see this file ?

Check the folder's permissions and/or file's permissions as well.

Have you opened the ports on your router, this doesn't sound like an Ubuntu issue to me.

Can you help with this problem?
