Firefox rendering problem

Asked by Kevin Long

I am having a problem with Firefox rendering pages. It seems as if on certain pages layers are rendered out of order. For example a block of an ad will remain on the page after navigating off of the page, or not be moved to the correct location when the page finishes downloading.

The does not occur when I run 1280x1024, but happens when I run 1024x768, so its tough to tell if Firefox or the video driver. The problem occurs in both Firefox 1.5 and 2.0. I am running Ubuntu 6.06 on a HP Pavilion 325c. The video driver detected by Ubuntu is a VT8375 [ProSavage8 KM266/KL266].

The I get this problem most often with is www.canoe.ca

I can provide a screenshot of the problem if requested.

Thanks for your help.

I think I get what you are talking about, but I would like to see a screenshot.

I think this is a problem with the website design itself and not firefox. The reason you do not get this problem when running at a higher resolution is probably because of how the page is displayed with a certain window size.

This is making me pretty sure that the poor coding of the site is the root of the problem:

Go ahead and post a screenshot and maybe I can assist you better.

Also, don't be afraid to use 'Help-->Report Bad Website' The folks at mozilla take those reports seriously, and most of the time, someone will either rag on the site for their design, or I will get looked at.

I'm not certain that it is just a problem with the website. I visit this site often using FireFox in XP at work and the problem doesn't occur. I have also noticed that once the problem occurs it will cause rendering problems on other pages, and cause other windows in Ubuntu to get mixed in.

How do I post screen shots? I would like to put up some samples.

Copy your samples on a website, and copy the link here. Hope that it helps you to demonstrate us your problem.

I have taken some screen shots demonstrating the problem. I hope you can help. The address listed below will provide some good samples of what I as seeing. The second shot shows a piece of dialog box from taking the screen shot that is now stuck in the page.

Hi all,

I've got the same problems on Ubuntu Feisty Fawn, with the same video chipset.

01:00.0 VGA compatible controller: S3 Inc. VT8375 [ProSavage8 KM266/KL266]

Some famous sites, like Gmail or Wikipedia are also affected. These problems seems to come from the "savage" video driver.

I have a simular problem, however firefox looks correct at 1024X768, but starts messing up the display at 1280x1024.
At this resolution it doesn't user the entire width of the display area, and nframes partly overwrite eachother. I use the nvidia drivers from ubuntu 6.10.
Firefox is the only program with this problem. Until I discovered teh solution of changing to 1024x768, I used opera with no problems.

Can you help with this problem?
