Empty password = I Can't Perform Admin tasks anymore!

Asked by Dave

I removed the password from the admin account so my whole family could use my computer, but now, I have lost acces to all Admin tasks (I can't Authenticate)! I tried changing the password using GRUB and the recovery mode, but still no dice! (It left with the error, *something* MANIPULATION ERROR: password unchanged) I have no choice but to reformat and reinstall, unless I can fix this problem, Pronto!

you dont need to format at all, so you don't only have one choice at all.

Just boot to root recovery mode and set the password for your user by running:

passwd foo

Reinstalling for the sake of a password....are you crazy?

1. I have already tried that, and as I said, I get the same error.
2. Yes and no, depending on how you look at it. This has been one day after I first installed ubuntu 12.04 LTS, and my brother asked me to remove the password. Besides, all the data I have on here is on a secondary computer. Still, you are right. There is no use to reinstall just for a password.

Also, I have Already tried the method that uses the Live CD, It has seemed to have worked, but when I tried to authorize, it still failed.

I fixed this, by reinstalling anyway, not too bad, but had to fix a few things before I was back in order.
