Splice Video Clips Together?

Asked by Riverrun

After nearly 4 months now since I switched, Ubuntu is working really well for me (hope I don't do something stupid, fingers crossed). It constantly amazes me. Just at the weekend, I discovered that I could run Xfce in tandem with Gnome. Talk about having your cake and eating it! What an amazing OS!

Just now I wondered if it is possible to join video parts together in Ubuntu and if so, what package should I use.

To clarify, when downloading video from various sites they often come in parts and I was wondering if there is an application that would join the parts to make a seamless whole?

I'm not a multimedia specialist but I have installed avidemux for a few basic things and it seems to work quite well (convert format and edit video files)
