best compatible universal internet modem for ubuntu 12.04

I have a quadra boot system with following OS's:

1) Ubuntu 12.04
2) Windows 7
3) AV Linux
4) Ubuntu 10.04

Can anyone name a few universal internet modems that can be compatible with all of the above 4 OS's?
The modem should have both 2G and 3G support.

Lucid is EOL in less than a few weeks. After this it will get zero support and zero updates. I recommend you use Precise which is LTS and supported til April 2017.

Modems basically are unviversal, any one should just be plug and play. Also @actionparsnip, OP has a precise installation as well as lucid already.

If you are after user reviews etc then Amazon have reviews by people using devcies etc. Also, see what is available to you then check there as well as YouTube / Forums to see how easily it can be made to work. You could also check the Linux HCL web page
