Driver and computer speed

Asked by davidzaq1

Hello,

I have a Dell Vostro 1500 laptop with Ubuntu 12.04. For the most part, this OS is opperating just fine. But sometimes when I go to open a program, the desktop turns grey and pauses for a second or two and then the screen gets light again and starts to run the program.

Under the settings, the activated driver is Nividia_Current_Updates. I have another driver that is not activated called:
sorg driver kernel module and VDPAU Library. Does this driver need to be activated also? Will this help the computer to run better?

Is there something else that won't drain the computer or make the screen turn grey?

I hope I described this so you can understand.

Thank you,
David

I just wanted to add an extra comment as well. I noticed that when I minimized a page or maximised it, the page slowly fades or slowly comes back up. I am wondering why the pages fade so gradually.
Is do to the driver or is it that I do not have enough ram on the computer? I have 2 gb of ram.

Thank you,

Yes, I have tried the 2D session. What about this other driver I have, the: Nvidia xorg kernel modoul and VDPAU library? Does this need to be activated like the other Nvidia current or will activating this driver mess up my computer?

Thank you,
David

no, its not a hardware problem. My hardware is just fine. Its a software problem but I do not know if it is in the driver, lack of memory or what

If you boot a Lubuntu 13.04 CD does the OS run faster than the installed OS?
