computer speed,

Asked by davidzaq1

I recently asked a question on how to fix the speed of my computer which is Delvostro 1500 lap top.
The problem was solved but I opened a tuturial on how to use Libre Office Calc. The Tutorial was in the form of Youtube videos. This slowed my computer down so much, it took a while to make thigs work. Watching the video was ok and played at a normal speed. But I had two windows open. One for the video and the Libre Calc program. When I tried to minimize the Libre window to watch the video or to bring it back up, it was really slow. There was a really big lag in the way the windo opened an closed. The computer even froze up a couple of times when I tried to minimize the other window or tried to make the youtube video run on the full screen.

Any ideas of what causes this to slow down so much? My computer seems to run fine without the youtube running.
I can play movies just fine but it really slowed down on the tutorial. I don't know if it was their website or the youtube videos.

Thank you.

I had similar issues while watching youtube vids. This really only happened to me when using chromium browser though. Try installing a new flash plugin... It might help.

Are you using the propietry drivers for your card? If not, start youtube, right click on a video and select settings. A window will open in the video. If it ins't already selected select the display tab at the bottom (the one with the screen on) and then uncheck enable hardware accelartion.

What is the output of:

lsb_release -a; uname -a; dpkg -l | egrep 'flash|gnash|swf|spark'

Thanks. You could try minitube too. It plays youtube vids but doesnt use Flash and uses less CPU power.

Here is the output from above.

$ lsb_release -a; uname -a; dpkg -l | egrep 'flash|gnash|swf|spark'
No LSB modules are available.
Distributor ID: Ubuntu
Description: Ubuntu 12.04.2 LTS
Release: 12.04
Codename: precise
Linux roo 3.2.0-39-generic #62-Ubuntu SMP Thu Feb 28 00:28:53 UTC 2013 x86_64 x86_64 x86_64 GNU/Linux
ii flashplugin-installer 11.2.202.275ubuntu0.12.04.1 Adobe Flash Player plugin installer

Is it better not to have flash installed then?
If Flash uses too much CPU power, thern maybe I should uninstall it.

I will also take a look at mini tube.

Thank you,
David

Uninstall the flashplugin-installer and enable the partner repo. You can then install the adobe-flashplugin package. May help.

Hello,

I uninstalled the flash plugin installer but I do not know how to follow the other instructions.

How do I enable the partner repo?

I did try to use the Minitube but after installing, it did not work I uninstalled it again.

Thank you,
David
