elantech touchpad shows in xinput, doesn't work

Asked by Bryan Poole

My elantech touchpad on my Acer Aspire One 725 Netbook shows up in Xinput, but does not function. I have installed Synaptiks and tried every other solution I could find on the user forums. One method worked fine, until I rebooted, then the touchpad tab in settings was gone.

and is this problem present in 12.10 as well? If not, I can just install that... Bob's your uncle.

You could test Quantal in liveCD.

Is there a switch or shortcut to enable/disable the touchpad?

I tried LiveCD, no dice. Yes, there is a toggle for the trackpad, and that was the first thing I tried. It shows the trackpad active, but no luck. Xinput output shows ETPS/2 Elantech Touchpad id=2 slave pointer

I've tried all the touchpad fixes I can find.. using modprobe and whatnot... stumped i am.

echo "options psmouse proto=imps" | sudo tee /etc/modprobe.d/psmouse.conf > /dev/null

reboot to test. Source:

Thanks! The echo and tee line didn't help... but the Fn+f7 before logging in did the trick. Gestures still don't work, but I hate gestures anyways!!!
