Failed to Download Repository Information

Asked by Edmond Condillac

It would be most appreciated if you would kindly help regarding the following error message received when I try running update-manager for available updates:

W:Failed to fetch http://ppa.launchpad.net/unity-team/staging/ubuntu/dists/quantal/main/source/Sources 404 Not Found
, W:Failed to fetch http://ppa.launchpad.net/unity-team/staging/ubuntu/dists/quantal/main/binary-i386/Packages 404 Not Found
, E:Some index files failed to download. They have been ignored, or old ones used instead.

I have tried looking at the list of similar previous questions, but dont understand how to resolve the problem.
Thank you.

If you visit this URL:

http://ppa.launchpad.net/unity-team/

you will see that the PPA is dead.

The directory http://ppa.launchpad.net/unity-team/staging/ubuntu/dists/quantal/ does not exist.

Please remove the PPA repository via Software Sources or remove the related file in /etc/apt/sources.list.d/

If you start adding 3rd party sources to your OS don't be surprised if you get issues. Not all PPAs support all releases.
