cant start/install ubuntu 7.10

Asked by selection.disabled

hi, i recently got ubuntu cd-image from inside a computer magazine dvd. i tried to write that image file to cd several times and although theres no errors during cd burning, i couldnt start/install ubuntu from the start-up menu. Then i decided to download a new cd-image from the web site and downloaded it via flashget. I can boot up to ubuntu boot menu but i cant go any further, it keeps giving "I/O read error" whether i choose to install or start. I burn the images with ultra iso 8 on windows, am i doing something wrong?btw my machine specs:
athlon 64 3000+
via k8t800 chipset with o/b sound (realtek)
nvidia 6600 gt
1 gb ddr400 ram
80gb sata hdd
lg cd writer
asus dvd rw

by the way i can boot from the image file from microsoft virtual pc 2007 without I/O error

From the Ubuntu boot menu can you try and 'Check CD for defects' and see if it passes or fails?

If it fails then it may be that there was a problem burning it.. or a problem with the CD media you've been using.

Have you had any problems like this with any other Linux CDs?

Thank you for the response, i have managed to burn the image and boot to live cd at last. Somehow (i dont know why) the cds that were burnt with ultra iso 8 didnt work (burnt like 5-6 cds with that). I burnt the image using blindwrite 6 and it worked fine. I suggest to whoever experience the same problem using blindwrite (on windows)
