Folder icons

Asked by MadhuSoodanan

In some Operation Systems, FOLDER ICONS seen on the desktop can be customized by selecting one from a group. In this large group there are different types of icons. Is there anything launched for Ubuntu 12.04 users? If yes, which one is the best?

I mean different icons for different folders. Not the application 'Advanced settings'.

Do you mean folder colours set by the user?

I mean to replace the 'rectangular-shaped-folder'by some small pictures (as given on the left pannel) . If different colours can be set, I shall do so. ............. In some older versions of Ubuntu there was provision for marking different signs for each folder. I just want to distinguish one from the other quickly.

Oh you mean the emblems? With a little extra icon to show what is inside. Is that correct?

Why did you not give it rather than saying "bad outpit" which tells us nothing....

You need to install the package. Adding a PPA on its own does nothing at all.

Two 'Other softwares' : http:// not https:// ppa.launpad.net/dr3mro/nautilus-actions-extra/ubuntu precise main & with source code are in the Software sources

And the Authentication key 0FBF21B7 2011-11-07 is also there. What should I do next. If this will create any complication I shall drop this question.

Dear Actionparsnip, I didn't understand which guide you meant. I read the instructions given in that link ( given in #9 ) regarding Dr. Amr Osman'. I don't wish to waste your presious time discussing this question because you will have to explain it a little more. So I will have to drop this question.

After this result I tried using Synaptic Package Manager. Used 'Complete removal' for removing 'nautilus-gksu'. I could remove that broken package. Again I tried. 'nautilus-gksu' appeared again.

So I tried
sudo apt-get clean; sudo apt-get update; sudo apt-get install

The last few lines follows:

You might want to run 'apt-get -f install' to correct these.
The following packages have unmet dependencies:
 nautilus-gksu : Depends: libnautilus-extension1 (>= 2.30) but it is not installable
E: Unmet dependencies. Try using -f.

I suggest you report a bug and/post on http://brainstorm.ubuntu.com

You can make folders have a completely custom icon if you make a new folder to test, right click it and hit properties. You can now click the folder icon and you can select any image file.

If the PPA is no good to you I suggest you remove it
