3.5.0-26-generic update and graphics problem

Asked by Adam Cajander

I received a software update today on my desktop running 12.10 amd64. This included an update to kernel version 3.5.0-26.42, as well as some other less important updates that I can't remember. Immediately after restarting, none of my compiz effects were working (rotate cube, wobble windows etc.), nor was XBMC media center. I received the following error when trying to start XBMC: "XBMC needs hardware accelerated opengl rendering. Install an appropriate graphics driver." opengl is enabled in compiz config settings manager, by the way. I am using an AMD A8-5600k APU with integrated AMD Radeon HD 7560D graphics. I am also using the fglrx-updates driver. For now, I switched back to 3.5.0-25, and compiz and xbmc are working fine again, which is why I assume it has something to do with the kernel update. Any help is always appreciated.

Thanks

Hi Adam ,

same problem in this Question #224681 . Seems like the new kernel update break things. So stick with the 0-25 version and remove the newer kernel.

Could try removing the driver and booting to the new kernel and reinstalling it again.

NikTh: Thanks for pointing me in the right direction, I reverted back to the previous kernel.

actionparsnip: Good idea, but it's not worth the trouble for me. I'll just wait for the next kernel release.

Thanks for the help
