Firestarter is preventing Evolution sending/receiving mail

Asked by Knowhope

Hi. Very new to Ubuntu - only switched from windoze last week, so i'm still getting things set up.
I have today installed Firestarter and am in the process of configuring it.

I have allowed outbound traffic for HTTP, HTTPS, POP and SMTP, but decided to go with the default for inbound traffic, ie do not allow anything that hasn't been requested.

But now Evolution cannot get the mail, giving error "Could not connect to pop.mail.yahoo.co.uk: Connection refused".

I access the internet via a router. Should i be adjusting the inbound traffic settings in some way to account for this ?

Thanks to all for any help.

Problem solved - my e-mail service provider yahoo uses ssl - i needed to give permission not only to "pop3" but also "pop3s", both inbound and outbound, to resolve the problem.

Thanks anyway.
