Try this.

Open a terminal (Applications -> Accessories -> Terminal). Then type:

gstreamer-properties

In the window for Multimedia Systems Selector that pops up, choose "ESD - Enlightenment Sound Daemon" for the "Default Output Plugin"

See if CDs play now.

Any additional help is still appreciated.

Thanks to Jim Jones

I have resolved the problem by adding additional gstream packages that allowed me to use the esd for the default output
