13.04 beta runs on Live DVD but video crashes on install

Asked by Doug Bates on 2013-03-05

Having run the live 13.04 beta (downloaded 4 Mar, updated 5th) desktop runs beautifully on [AMD] nee ATI Caicos [Radeon HD 6450] with system graphics reported as 'Gallium 0.4 on AMD CAICOS', but after install the system hangs at an overscanning (or blank colour) log-on screen. Note: system installed with 'download propriety software'=no.

Properitry drivers then installed via 'safe mode'/reboot but stagger along & nowhere near as smooth as the Live DVD (which was great with all the 3D functionality/workspaces etc working perfectly)

Sorry can't generate generate technical dump because I can't get in - but will help if I can/given advise.

How best can I help report this? thank you

I suggest you report a bug. Raring is not ready and in no way stable.

Thanks actionparsnip for your quick response but I know it is beta & not stable but I was asking 'How best can I help report this?'

I read the 'reporting bugs' protocol page but cannot assertain whether it is a duplicate / which program hangs or how to generate a meaningful apport report (because the login has failed due, I beieve, to graphics X.Xorg issues)

I would like to report issue in a helpful way (otherwise not) hence my question.

Run:

ubuntu-bug xorg

You can then report the bug. The bug guys will ask you for outputs and suggest things for you to try to fix the bug then make it part of the full release if it is good.
