ATI RS880M Mobility Radeon HD 4200 Series

Unstable support for ATI RS880M Mobility Radeon HD 4200 Series in Ubuntu 12.10.

Issue 1#
   Harddisk encryption is enabled, when it boots there are no messages, it goes to blank screen.
   Encryption password prompt is not working (i.e. not even blind entry).
   Pressing Ctrl Alt F1 followed by Alt F7 brings about the graphical console display.

Issue 2#
   GL drivers are not available. Very messy, as no acceleration whatsoever.

For 12.10 Xorg has been updated to 1.13 , which causes a broken install of 12.10 on old radeon gpu's . Would it be possible for you to install the latest legacy drivers (13.1 on amd website).

the reason it goes to blank screen is most likely due to the xorg issue detailed above. How did you encrypt the hdd, the entire hdd (from installer) or just the home partition? If you encrypted the entire hdd then you have had to input your password for it to get to the "...graphical console display" and therefore to boot at all.
