Lost All my data

Asked by wisdomnko

I was logged in working on my laptop. Then, it just froze up. LibreOffice Writer was not responding, the mouse was not responding. So I had booted the machine. When it came up, I logged in and there was absolutely nothing all my folder are empty. What is bothering me is that instead of seeing Home folder I see guest-kAwooJ. Could someone have hacked my computer?

How do I go about retrieving my lost data?

I have checked installed software such as skype, Dropbox etc. All seem to be there but I can not see them. I can see any of my data. Could there be some bug of some sort?

I clicked on software center and click on Dropbox. It gave a message that Dropbox is running for an unexpected location.?. How can a hard boot cause all data on my machine to disappear except for Ubuntu?

Your backups will ensure data integrity. you could also boot liveCD and mount your partitions there

Can you help with this problem?
