Rhythmbox sound problems after fiddling

Asked by Peter Underhill

Hi , I have just managed to screw up my sound output on Gutsy Gibbon. Originally had sound on bootup but not on various radio stations , I got various error messages whilst trying, To be clever I loaded Audacious and XXMMS programs from add/remove progs in an attempt to use radio/audio . I had not previously used any music channels via the web or CD. As that did not work I then removed all three programs (incl Rhythmbox) and reloaded Rhythmbox so as to return the system to the original (as I thought). If life were that simple, I now have no sound whatsoever even on booting up, I would add that I<M using a dual-boot with XP and on trying the sound in XP it is fine, I have read some of the previous questions re this sound problem and the nearest I can get is somehow I have deleted some drivers? Is there something obvious here , I have checked the volume controls etc , any help much appreciated , I am obviously new to Linux so am learning by experience here. Peter
