First time user of ubuntu, need help on which version I need to install on Asus EEE PC901

I was upgrading my ubuntu from 11.10 to 12 whan the ligth went out and and my pc went of or shout down so this morning as i re boot the whole system change to some thing else and it cann't upgrade why and how will i resolve it? pls help now

You would want ubuntu 12.04 32 bit. Any other derivative (kubuntu, lubuntu etc) will also work well.

Although with a 16 gb ssd you may be pressed for space(it needs 4gb ish to install), I would suggest keeping your files online on a cloud solution or a memory stick to make sure you have some free space

Also see Xubuntu 12.04 LTS (3 years of support = April 2015).
