amule question?

Asked by sandra.bodkin

I went to ADD/Remove and found aMule. I clicked in the box and added this package. The package is in /user/share/app. How do I get it out of there in order to use it? I am a newbie and I need detailed instructions on how to get the app out of /user/share and on to my desktop so I can use it. Thanks.

The program itself is installed in /usr/bin and stores some extra files in /usr/share. This is normal and analogous (roughly) to the C:\Program FIles directory in Windows.

To use the program, you'll use the menu, in this instance Applications > Internet > aMule. If you wish to put an icon on your desktop for easy launch, you can right-click the icon and choose "Add this launcher to desktop". For that matter, you can also add it as a panel icon (like the mail, Firefox, and help icons next to the System menu) and place it anywhere you like on the top or bottom panels.

You can add shortcuts to any program in your Applications menu the same way.

This answers my question. Thanks Nathan for taking the time to answer it. I'm really new at this and I have to learn it. It's a lot harder than windows and different. But if you learned it so can I . Thanks again.

Sandra, you were able to find aMule and install it, and you were able to find it in /usr/share somehow, and you were able to ask for help when you needed it. I think you're doing just fine! Linux can be a lot different than Windows, but once you become more familiar with it, I hope you'll feel that it is not harder at all.

Don't hesitate to ask again if you need further assistance.

Thanks again Nathan. I added and then looked under internet and found it. It is there. But when I tried to open and connect to server it just didn't connect. So I can't use it because I don't know why it won't connect. It should have automatically connected but it just sits there and there is no connection. So I must be doing something wrong.
