Remove Ubuntu 12.10

Asked by billp

Installed Ubunto 12.10 as third OS on a multi-boot computer - now find I do not like it and also have serious problems using it, but cannot find any help info on how to uninstall or remove without damaging other existing W2K-Xp Windows installs >>> HELP please

1) Boot manager now defaults to Ubunto >> can't find any way to change or adjust to default boot into something else, plus : Boot display defaults to something like 2000 x 1500 pixel, making the display font extremely tiny and completely unreadable. Most of boot managers options seem some type of testing!
2) Help is a joke >> no help info on uninstall process found! Ubuntu web-site server has been mostly dead all day(?) yesterday so no help or Forum access
3) Changed Ubuntu desktop from its difficult default of around 2000x1500 to a more readable 1024x768 >>> now can't see all icons within various folders, such as system, find that often there is no compensating sliders on the folders to scroll.
4) Desktop jumps around often, even when no user activity, much of the time I cannot see the full desktop as either one or another edge has jumped off the display by about 10 to 20%
 Thanks,

I believe that os uninstaller is the quickest way to un install an os.

However I would advise you to back up your system just in case something doesn't go according to plan.

Unknown software messing with my HD is a concern - might lose Windows boot loader in process(?). Bad enough that Ubuntu apparently does not have a built in uninstalled....
Thanks for the reply.

If you have installed ubuntu the bootloader has been replaced by grub, also a bootloader. If you wipe your linux partitions windows would come up with bootmgr is missing, since grub replaced the boot manager. You can fix that by following the instructions below.

NOTE: I know that( the instructions below) works for a dual boot system (with windows 7), I have no idea whether the steps below will work for xp or windows 2000, since i dont know how multiple windows installations deal with each other.

I am not sure whether xp will be happy with this but to uninstall ubuntu with a dual boot system in windows 7 you would boot into windows ,delete all the nessesary partitions (i.e. all the partitions you created when installing ubuntu), then boot up your repair disk (xp) and at cmd type in:
 bootrec /fixmbr
bootrec /fixboot

. For xp I believe (not sure though) that it is just
fixmbr
fixboot. Then you can restore your free space by extending your partitions.

Ubuntu does not have an uninstaller that is correct, although I am not sure any OS does provide an easy way to uninstall itself, but I digress.

The way you "uninstall" it is to delete its partitions and recover your bootloader from your windows repair disk cd or windows install cd.

I dont know how picky xp is, but here is another guide explaining how to uninstall

Can you help with this problem?
