How to increase storage?

Asked by Ville R

So i installed ubuntu, patched it and downloaded steam. Then i realized that i have only 4gb storage left. I tought i could install steam games and stuff to my 2tb harddrive usb hard drive or my regular one which has 400gb free space, but now i can only use that amount i choosed at installation? (30gb was max, which is nothing..) When i'm' going to install some game in steam, it says only 4gb left. So how do i increase my storage? And when i try to change steam library folder, it doesnt seem to show those other storages i have.

E: Ohh and forgotted to say that im dualing with windows 7 and installed ubuntu via windows installer.

Could you confirm that by windows installer you mean wubi?

Thanks,

If you used Wubi, you may be able to make a folder under /host and copy data there (probably steam etc) then symlink back to the original location.

Okay i managed to create a ĺibrary folder under /host, but for some reason steam doesnt let me to install tf2 there. Only tf2 and css cannot be installed there, on every other game it let me to choose which library folder i want to use. Even with tf2 beta, which is almost same..

move the existing folder then make a symlink. You don't install apps directly to the folder in the app. You are using the symlink to fool the OS.

What is the full path of the folder holding steam?

Even after i moved it to /host it seems to be /home/vilho/.local/share/Steam. And that is where it was when i installed it for first time. It also seem to create some files back to original location.

Ok move the Steam folder to /host. this will put it on your NTFS partition and make the /host/Steam

You can then run:

ln -s /home/Steam /home/vilho/.local/share/Steam

The OS will still see the Steam folder in the normal place but the symlink means it is really stored in your NTFS. In future I suggest you not use Wubi but also assign more space for Ubuntu if you intend to use Steam. Your storage is clearly insufficient for your needs.

What do you mean by running ln -s /home/Steam /home/vilho/.local/share/Steam?

And yeah i tried to install ubuntu from cd but for some reason it failed.. And now i have 2 ~300gb parts of my 2tb usb HDD taken for linux, but really those arent in my use. You know what i mean? I tried to install ubuntu 2 times from cd, but both times it failed at just took those 300gb away..

its a terminal command with a typo which I then corrected. just move the folder to another mounted partition then symlink. As long as the folder you link is mounted when you run steam it will run

Can you help with this problem?
