MESSAGE WHEN BOOTING - INVALID OR CORRUPT KERNEL IMAGE

Asked by Maré De Freitas

My old HP 520 harddrive crashed - the drive has been formatted and I ONLY want to load Ubuntu.

I've struggled to download Ubuntu 12.10 on a Toshiba laptop with Windows 7, eventually succeeded in downloading 'ubuntu-12.10-desktop-i386.iso' but I don't seem to have the right download. I've created a boot on USB flash - seems my DVD writing is not functioning properly, won't read any disk I try to burn.

I'm clueless and seriously need a lot of guidance!

you can install the ubuntu within windows: https://help.ubuntu.com/community/Wubi
or install it from usb: https://help.ubuntu.com/community/Installation/FromUSBStickQuick
in order to check if you downloaded iso's integrity, here: https://help.ubuntu.com/community/HowToMD5SUM

Hi Jason

I've now tried WUBI it installed, I rebooted selected Ubuntu but it won't go into Ubuntu.

I still don't seem to have the correct download. I previously had Ubuntu 11.10 on the old HP laptop can't I gain access to this older version?

Hi Andrew, I first used Pendrivelinux the I tried unetbootin - the USB doesn't seem to be the problem, I don't think the download file is complete?? or it may have errors

ISO doesn't match - I have no clue!

I need a file to download, then to create a boot on USB stick to boot up HP laptop with no disk drive at present, I'm currently on a Toshiba with windows 7. I need an easy option - all this stuff is way too technical for me!

if the ISO doesn't match then the data is corrupted and needs redownloading
