Can you please provide the errors or difficulties you are having with installing the printer?

Are you trying to install the printer via usb or install it to be availible for everyone on the network(if needed), a bit more information would be helpful.

http://software.canon-europe.com/files/soft31335/software/iP1900_debian_printer.tar

here is the printer driver.--this will download a .tar file. Once it is downloaded move it to the desktop and extract it (right click, extract here).

1-Turn off the printer

2-you will need to install a couple of things via the terminal (ctrl+alt+t,press enter after the command to run the command, you can copy them to terminal with ctrl+c, and paste to terminal with ctrl+shift+v)

install libcupsys2 (if it says it is already installed then no problem)

 sudo apt-get install libcupsys2

assuming you have extracted your .tar file to the desktop type in (terminal)
cd Desktop and press enter(after each command)

you will find that inside .tar archive you unpacked, there is another .tar archive-extract it to the desktop as well.

Now you have 3 files 2 .deb files and a folder which you have just untarred (...common.3-).

Install everything (your terminal should say username@ubuntu:~/Desktop$ or something like that/

sudo dpkg -i *deb

This will install the two deb packages included in the downloaded tar file that will install the proper drivers in the computer database.

3-turn printer on and plug into usb, ignore any messages you get.

Now that are installed, exit the console and then let's go to CUPS web manager in a web browser to http://127.0.0.1:631

Admin --> "Find new printer" and then follow the instructions.

Hope this helps

For your system there is a good chance that libcups2 is already installed ( libcupsys2 is the same thing) .

For each sudo command it will ask you for your password- it will not register that you are typing it in but it is accepting input, dont worry- as long as you provide the right password it will proceed with the command

Can you help with this problem?
