Crash During install

First Install - i have vista installed on raid drive 2 10,000 rpm raptors i have a 250g sata drive for data computer specs are asus striker mother board core 2 duo Q6400 cpu 8800 gtx ultra, im trying to install Ubuntu on a spare 400g seagate IDE i downloaded ubuntu-7.10-desktop-amd64 i have tested the download and it was good, i burnt it to disk and attempted to install it, the Ubuntu install screen comes up and i can click install and it installs the linux kernal, the cd spins around for awhlile but the screen stays black, am i installing the wrong version for my computer is there a driver problem? any help would be appreciated thanks.

Try to boot with parametres "noapic nolapic" (in the menu after booting press F6 a write down these two words).

I tried booting with the parametres "noapic nolapic". I got this error "kernel panic - not syncing VFS unable to mount root fs on unknown bloch ( 8,1 )"

I think problem is with the CD... Try "Check CD for defects" (third or fourth choise in menu).
