I just downloaded the debian software-center.deb package and attempted to install it to see if it was posssible. I will continue to try it to see if I can get it working, but at this point it is not. Here is how to get it:

1. go to http://packages.debian.org/sid/all/software-center/download
2. Choose Download location and save the file to your /Downloads folder or another folder of your choice
3. Open terminal and type:

sudo dpkg -i ~/Name of Folder/software-center_5.1.2debian3.1_all.deb

4. Open software updater and install updates. You should now get a broken package warning.
5. In terminal type:

sudo apt-get install -f

6. Now Debian software-center should be installed. Good luck trying to get it working. It has the same command name as Ubuntu Software Center (software-center), so when I try to open it from terminal, Ubuntu software center opens up. Maybe you can figure out the rest but I don't have time to experiment with it any more. I may try later and keep you informed of any success or failure I have.

I see you are trying to mix package from http://packages.debian.org/sid/all/software-center/download and packages from the Ubuntu repositories.

I strongly advise against doing this. Experience has proven that this can AND will break your package management system.

Mixing packages from Debian and Ubuntu often causes big problems, sometimes requiring a complete reinstall of the operating system.

There are several good package managers for Ubuntu.

I can name a few:

apt-get
aptitude
smart (smartpm-core)
synaptic
Ubuntu Software Center

I suggest choosing one of these (from Ubuntu) and sticking to a single choice.

Please also explain in detail why you would need software-center from Debian.

Can you help with this problem?
