The XScreenSaver daemon doesn't seem to be running in 0.0

Asked by dustbindiva

I installed screensavers and they are working except when I shut down and boot up again the screen is blank and when I look at the Screensavers it says XScreenSaver daemon not running, do you want to run it now? I always say OK but I still get this message every time I shut down and boot up again.

Go to the startup applications program and click add, put anything for the name and comment, but have the command as xscreensaver -nosplash
Then click save. Log out and in again to test.

I tried this already but I put "xscreensaver - no - splash" rather than "xscreensaver-nosplash"

does that matter ? I have no added it again in the format you gave. Let you know if it works.

It did not help to get rid of the error message which actually reads:

The XScreenSaver daemon doesn't seem to be running in 0.0

something like that

Please insert the format @samuel suggested .

xscreensaver --nosplash

this is the correct format of the command.

Thanks

I have tried that already and it doesnt stop the error message from showing up and my screen is blank rather than showing a screensver.

Is there a space after the word xscreensaver and before the hyphen ?

XSCREENSAVER -NOSPLASH or XSCREENSAVER-NOSPLASH ?

You must remove gnome-screensaver first.

See here:
http://www.howtogeek.com/114027/how-to-add-screensavers-to-ubuntu-12.04/

and yes there is a space after xscreensaver and before the hypen symbol. But no space after hypen.

You can just copy the command from here..

xscreensaver -nosplash

Thanks
