'ghost' cdrom drive cant install packages

Asked by phil kostka

im trying to setup remote desktop to login to my linux box from a winxp pro box, and i believe i need krfb and krdc packages installed, but when i try to install them, it asks for the ubuntu 5.10 cd, which i have in the cd rom drive. but, in my computer places, it shows 3 cd rom drives. i have 2 in the system, both are cdrw drives, but neither of them are the first cd-rom drive, the one that the package updater is looking at for the cd. so i cant install any packages that need the ubuntu cd, so im stuck.ive put the cd in each cdrom drive and tried to add the packages, but nothing works. help!

System->Administration->Synaptic put in your password.
From there click on settings->repositories. Uncheck the CD.

Save those and click update.

You will never be asked for the CD again.

For remote desktop VINO is probably easiest.

Click on System->Preferences->Remote Desktop
Once you set it up any "VNC" viewer will be able to connect to assuming the computer itself is accessable.
