ac97_bus 3200 1 snd_ac97_codec
snd_page_alloc 11400 3 snd_emu10k1x,snd_intel8x0,snd_pcm

I feel like the problem might be due to two competing sound cards (Dell soundblaster live and Intel ICH5.
But I'm dying for sound, so if anyone can help, I'd appreciate it!

Yes, first i would try disabling the onboard card through bios. Can you do that?

Can you walk me through that? I've never had to before and didn't know anything about bios until this problem.

Is this a manual for your bios: http://support.dell.com/support/edocs/systems/dim4600/en/4600i/sm/syssetup.htm#1139574?

If so it would be integrated devices, sound, off.
