Open file from zip and it saves in tmp - lost data

Asked by Matthew Revell

Howdy,

When opening a spreadsheet in OpenOffice Calc, from a zip file, and then clicking the Save icon, the user gets the impression that their work is saved as normal.

However, what actually happens is the file is saved in tmp and disappears after a reboot. This seems to be a break of the trust between the user and the system. At all points, the user thinks their work is saved - probably back to the zip file - but in fact its saved to tmp and so effectively lost by the time they come to next find it.

Before I file this as a bug, does anyone know if there's any way to get the saved files back? They're not in tmp now.

Cheers,

Matthew.

Methinks this would be a feature request in file roller, to detect changes in the file instance from /tmp versus the one in the zip and prompt to update before clising file roller.

Can you help with this problem?
