kde install problem

Asked by David Vincent-Jones

On Ubuntu 7.10
I Used "sudo apt-get update; sudo apt-get install kubuntu-desktop" to install kubuntu

When I restart the system it appears from the logo that kubuntu is loading but the 'log-in' then appears to be normal ubuntu
The desktop looks like standard ubuntu.

When I go to log-out there are no options to change desktops ... I quickly get a few lines of information (too fast to read) .. a black screen for a moment then ... back to the ubuntu log-in screen.

I have tried to install a second time but no change.

When I go to re-start then the kubuntu logo indicates that it is shutting down

Help would be appreciated

It appears that kde programs are installed ... for instance konquerer is opening correctly

But the desktop layout appears restricted to gnome and the log-off/switch-over really is a mess

At the login menu on the bottom left, there should be an Options button. Click it, and then go to Session (or something like that). Choose KDE from the menu that pops up, hit OK, and continue to sign in.

Jacob;

Thanks for opening my eyes ... feel rather stupid for not seeing it before.
