The best place to look for a Linux compatible printer would be www.linuxprinting.org

Though the page on your printer says that it only supports up to 300dpi. Here is the link to that page http://www.linuxprinting.org/show_printer.cgi?recnum=Lexmark-1100

It seems that the best choices are Epson and HP, I know a lot of people using HPs that are quite happy with them in linux.

Err, first part of my comment is missing, I'm using the newly released Edgy 6.10 and it does have that printer listed using the lm1100 driver.
