Does ubuntu work a asus g1 s

Asked by Dines683

I have just bought a Asus G1 S laptop.
The thing is that it freezes whenever i play tremulous on it sometimes even if i am just using openoffice.

Is there anyone who has made this laptop and Ubuntu work good together?? or could it be that ubuntu doesn't fully "support" this laptop yet.

Else is there anyone who has made this laptop work good with another linux distro??

I have ran memtest86+ for 23 hours and no errors were detected.

The laptop has a Nvidia GeForce 8600M GT videocard and i use the proprietary nvidia driver installed using the restricted driver manager.

I can run glxgears in 1680x1050 solution for hours without any problems.

I have used lm-sensors to meassure the temperature and when it freezes it is about 80 degrees for both cpu's and gpu.
But when i run glxgears the temperature reaches 90 degrees celcius.

I'm running Ubuntu 7.10 on the G1S-B2, and I haven't had any problems.

Here is a wiki reference for a large number of the features of this laptop that don't work by default: http://asusg1s.wikidot.com/ubuntu-7-10
