Fan spins then stops (repeat for 20 minutes)

Asked by KingRudi

I have a Dell XPS 15, running a clean install of Ubuntu and Bumblebee 3. Often I can hear my fan spinning up for a about 3 seconds, then it sops for about 3 seconds, and then that repeats for quite a while (10 to 20 minutes). I'm worried this is going to damage my laptop. Does anyone know how I can attempt to troubleshoot the problem?

Thanks so much,
Rudi

Can you give the output of:

uname -a; lsb_release -a

I assume you have the latest BIOS
