dash fails to show programs

My netbook has ubuntu 12.04 LTS with the most recent updates. Clicking Dash gives only files or maps but not programs or functions. For instance "schermafdruk" (=screenshot) gives no reaction at all. At the bottom of the screen 5 icons are shown; no one gives the desired result.
I can reach the programs using the Terminal.

A lot of details I have sent regarding question #219545 after going through PackageTroubleshooting.

apt-cache policy unity; lsb_release -a; uname -a

The answer to my previous question (219545) solved also this problem!
