WIFI Broadcom problems

Asked by enrico

i'm Enrico from Italy
and first of all sorry for my bad english
i have a Laptop HP Pavilion DV8306ea with wifi of Broadcom
i had installed Linux Kubuntu 6.06 with 2.6.15-26-386 kernel
To install wifi i had done all (ndiswrapper and bla bla)
but ndiswrapper -l tell me:
Installed ndis drivers:
bcmwl5 driver present

So it doesn't tell me "Hardware present"
i think my device is not switched on...
IF i try load module, seem all ok but if i go to see the /var/log/syslog
i find ubuntu had load the driver but i don't read
(as wroten in ndiswrapper installation doc):
something like wlan: ndiswrapper ethernet device xx:xx:xx:........
but i read a repetition of a line like
this:
localhost dhclient:DHCPDISCOVER on eth1 to 255.255.255.2555 port
67 interval 5...7...9...4...15 (and other numbers in the consequences
line)

what happend to my wifi? where is the problem?
can someone help me?

thx
enrico

I've actually compiled the latest kernel from kernel.org of which you can follow details from here: http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=217657&highlight=compile+kernel

This also fixed a lot of other problems I was experiencing (such as no laptop battery meter, lots of APIC problems etc...)

After installing it I also had to compile the latest ndiswrapper sources (available int the apt repositories).

Can you help with this problem?
