Leaving full screen vidoe causes graphics issues

Asked by Jacob Mickelsen

I run 12.04. When watching youtube videos in full screen on chrome, if I try to leave full screen or adjust the computer volume it freaks out. With the volume issue, the volume bar and the video conflict and the volume bar image gliches between being in front and behind the video. If I try to leave full screen, the whole screen goes white. If I move the cursor over where an icon should be, it reappears. If I let the computer sit for a while, the screen will return to normal but will remain unresposive. If I kill chrome, then the page I was on becomes the desktop background. Everything will return to normal by loging out and back in, but occasionally when I bring up the logout options, the screen will go to a blur of colors and nothing responds at all forcing me to hard restart. I have no idea what is wrong. The Ubuntu bug report tells me to come here for help.

Have you tried other browsers?

It seems to be a chrome problem. They work fine in firefox and used to be fine in chrome until I had an adblock problem with hulu. Since then the problems described above have been occurring in chrome, Ubuntu occasionally pops up the internal error message, and my RAM usage is unusually high. If it weren't for the error message and unusually high RAM, I would chalk it up to an issue with chrome, but the rest makes me think it could be more. I will try the old solution of just shutting down my computer for a while, since I have only been logging out to "fix" the problem. If that solves the RAM issue, then I'll call this resolved and just not use chrome for full screen videos.
