ubuntu server refresh rate

Asked by mkclinux

Installed Ubuntu Server (Lamp install).
During install monitor complained it needed 60hz refresh.
Monitor would only stay on for 20 seconds.
Turn back on and could see Ubuntu but monitor warning was back. Keeps turning off.
There is no etc/X11 folder since this is strictly the Server version so there is no xorg.conf file or anything of that nature to edit. Strictly Server version.

What file do I edit to set the default resolution and refresh rate for Ubuntu Server?

Thanks.

This is not due to a bogus X configuration but due to the framebuffer. Try in the grub prompt (hit Esc to access it) to edit the kernel line and remove at the end of the line the vga= argument.

If it is ok, then edit the line with kopt in /boot/grub/menu.lst (this line is commented out, but is used by grub : do not uncomment it !) and suppress / change the vga= argument.

Can you help with this problem?
