The settings are a little bit different for each computer, but if you have the manual for your computer or motherboard, it should have pretty good instructions. Good luck!

Another thing to check is that you burned the ISO image correctly and not just burned the file to the disk. When you explore the disk in windows you should see a bunch of files, not just one. There is a guide here https://help.ubuntu.com/community/BurningIsoHowto

Though I like the program ImgBurn for burning ISOs http://www.imgburn.com/

Also there are many ways to get into the BIOS to change the boot order if that is the problem. The most common are the Escape key, Delete key, F1 key, and the F2 key which would get pressed when first starting the computer(usually the computer will have a BIOS splash screen, which will either state the BIOS or the Computer(ie: Dell) makers name. You can also refer to this site as they have the most common machines listed
http://www.michaelstevenstech.com/bios_manufacturer.htm

Hope this helps.

I have tried to read a lot of what you have on your web page, but still cannot find a simple explanation of how to intall Ubuntu from the CD.
Is Ubuntu meant for everyone or just 'techies'?
Thanks

Have you checked your computers BIOS settings and made sure that it boots from CD?

Try hitting F8 when the BIOS screen appears. I believe that is the standard option to choose what to boot from. If such menu does pop up, select the drive with the CD/DVD in it to boot up into the Ubuntu Live CD.
