You can do so by formatting Mandrake partition and install Ubuntu on it: its installer is able to do that task very easily and without too much worries.

Luca I know how to format in windows, but how would I go into Mandrake and

When he says "its installer" he means Ubuntu's installer. If you start up the install process, it will ask you which partitions and drives you want to install to, and then it will then do the formatting for you. Just double check that you select Mandrake's partitions, and none that say anything about NTFS or FAT.

In Ubuntu's installer you can also select the Mandrake partition, and choose to format it and make it your / partition. That is probably the easiest and most efficient method.

Yes, you may format the partition where you want to intall ubuntu, but REMEMBER backup all the files (important for you) before formating the partition, since formating ERASES all data in your Mandrake partition.

now, I have another problem. I installed Ubuntu, and restarted my
computer. I got the message on the screen that Grub was installing and to
please wait. Then I got an error 21 message, and my comp stopped. Now I
can't get into ubuntu or windows. What is error 21 and how do I fix this?

Have you an external hard disk (or storage peripherals on your USB ports) ? It makes that on my computer in this situation.

nothing like this. it just tries to go into the dual boot setup, locks the
computer up and gives me that error 21 message.

Ok, guys and girls, I'm still having trouble. It appears that the daul boot setup from Mandrake, which I think is Lilo is giving Grub problems and locking my computer up. I just get a message that grub is loading then an error 21 message. I think I need to edit my master boot record to get rid of Lilo, or possibly both and to start over. As it is, the only way I can get my computer to do anything is by using the livecd of Ubuntu and then I can get in here and ask question, but I can't get the full version of ubuntu to run and I can't get windows to work. Thanks for any help anyone can give me.

Can you help with this problem?
