Uninstall KDE Firefox scrollbar fix

Asked by Lechuan

I recently gave KDE a try and was not satisfied, so I reverted back to Gnome. However, I installed the KDE Firefox scrollbar fix in the KDE control center, and now the Firefox scrollbar is in KDE style, with two buttons at the bottom. There seems to be no obvious way to uninstall that fix.
Is there a clean way to do the job? Or do I have to manually alter some files?

Did you tried to change the GTK themes in the configuration panel ?

I changed to the Murrine engine and the Human engine after I switched back to Gnome.
Or do you mean that if I changed the GTK theme when I was using KDE? I selected the "using qt widget" option (or something, I cannot remember the exact phrase) instead of specify a theme for GTK apps. I was using Domino under KDE.

I have the problem solved. I guess anyone that knows a little about firefox chrome is able to solve this, and this is why no one has asked this problem before.
Just delete everything KDE added in the firefox user chrome (in the ~/.mozilla directory if I remember correctly). It is quite obvious as there is a comment line saying "The following 4 lines are added by KDE."
I hope this helps those who does not know the firefox chrome very well, and are changing back from KDE to Gnome, frustrated to see how KDE has failed their anticipation...

@Lechuan:
Where in Kcontrol is the Firefox Scrollbar fix? I need it, yet cannot find it. Also, if you can tell me what the 4 lines that KDE added to your userchrome file, I'd appreciate it. Thanks.

Hi -
thanks for the tip on this; I don't know why it's difficult to find an answer to this question on the web.
The "scrollbar fix" isn't doing what it should for me; it seems to draw some blue and grey fill in the scrollbar that covers the buttons and arrows.
For Firefox, I have removed the lines from the userChrome, css and userContent.css files as you mention here, but the problem persists. I haven't been able to find similar files for Thunderbird.
Where should I be looking for any other bits of what KDE added to my profiles?

Thank you

Maybe your issue is not related to the scrollbar fix? As the issue that you mention is not the effect provided by the scrollbar fix, and removing the scrollbar fix does not solve it, I think it might be something else. When did first notice the issue? What extensions do you have?

Hi - Thanks for your reply.
The problem dates to my upgrade to Ubuntu intrepid over the weekend. Under hardy, I was using a gtk-qt patch with KDE 4 which drew decorations for gtk apps with gtk prefs.

As far as I can tell this looks like a feature of the gtk drawing in KDE 4.1.2. It seems to want to draw blue scrollbars, but then replace them with gray when they are clicked on or sliders are moved. This grey is not drawing correctly, and covers sliders and arrows.

The problem is present in both Firefox and Thunderbird, but not in any other applications, so far as I have noticed.
I am using the Cleanlooks KDE widget style.
In Firefox I am using the default theme, and have the Ubuntu modifications add-on installed. In addition, I am using the following add-ons: Addblock Plus, filterset-g updater, noscript, cookie monster, ctrl-tab, ubiquity, and downthemall.

In Thunderbird I am using the default theme, but using a fully skinned theme makes the problem go away. I have the following add-ons installed: attachment extractor, french dictionary, hungarian dictionary, remember mismatched domains.

What could be causing it do you reckon?

Hi -
as a follow-up, I switched to the Murrine gtk engine in gnome to draw the scrollbars using gnome-color-chooser, and KDE seems to be using this now also. So no more weirdness with the scrollbars, though it appears KDE is still using the gnome gtk settings.
thanks
