Help with WEB-CAM Support

Asked by EXel

So here it is...

Recently bought a webcam - Emtec W300 (intuix)
[Link: http://www.emtec-international.com/en/produit.php?categorie=AVNOM&gamme=AV%20WEBCAMS&ss_gamme=W300]

I have two PC's One stationary (running Windows XP) and one portable (running dual boot of Ubuntu 7.10 and Windows XP), both Windows OS's support this webcam, but Ubuntu apparently not...

How so?
That's how...

When I plug a webcam into USB under Wwindows, it tells me that it has found new hardware, Ubuntu is as quiet as a winter night. No windows jumping out no sound warning, nothing on the hardware lists (both graphical and terminal [lshw command]).

What I ask is that maybe someone has experienced the same problem and has a solution to it.
If not, then I hope that next version of Ubuntu will have this "hole" fixed and I'll be able to use my web cam under Ubuntu...

My laptop:

Could you give us the output of the command "lsusb".

I have an acer aspire 5610Z and would guess the webcam is the same(ish)

5986:0100 is my webcam, made by bison and it works in at least amsn and skype when you build and install the "linux-uvc" module: "sudo module-assistant a-i linux-uvc"

Your webcam is actually the other one. (creative is your mouse)

However the webcam seems to be supported by neither gspca nor linux-uvc and googling didn't give me any further ideas.

Sorry.
