Internal Mic does not work under 12.04LTS

The internal mic does NOT work under 12.04LTS (The version that I want to run)
It DOES work under 12.10 from the live dvd.

I don't want to run 12.10. I prefer LTS. It can't be hardware.

I am running 64bit on both the installed and updated 12.04LTS and the 12.10 Live DVD

Lenovo n580 with intel sound card
