Black Screen on Install - Ubuntu 7.10

Asked by Mike006

So, I put the Ubuntu 7.10 Live DVD into my old computer's drive as the BIOS is loading. A black screen appears w/ the Ubuntu logo, and several choices. I choose "Start or Install Ubuntu". Another screen w/ the ubuntu logo and an orange bar bouncing around appears. Soon, the Disk Drive speeds up, and the bar stops at the left side. the bar grows to a certain point, and a black screen appears. The disk drive stops spinning. I wait, and wait, and wait, But the black screen is still there. I hit the power button, and the disk drive ejects. i remove the ubuntu dvd, and hit enter. The computer turns off.

Next I try the Text mode CD. The install goes how i expect, but when i turn on the Computer, after the Ubuntu logo W/ the progress bar, it gives me the SAME BLACK SCREEN.

Now I try the Ubuntu 7.04, and xubuntu 7.10 live DVDs, and it does the smae thing as The Ubuntu 7.10 Live DVD.

I'm guessing this is a hardware problem, so let me tell you about my system.
Graphics card: NVidia Geforce FX5200 PCI, AND Intel Intergratd Graphics
RAM: 320MB
Processor: Intel Pentium 3

I don't know if this could cause the problem, but last time i used my Nvidia graphics card, It the fan didn't seem to work properly.
Anyway, Thanks for any help in advance.

That doesn't help, but thanks for trying.
One thing important that I found out is if I use the Ubuntu 7.04 DVD, and choose safe graphics mode, it brings me to the command line. From there, I can type in:
sudo dpkg-reconfigure xserver-xorg
That command asks me about my hardware, and configures the GUI. It never works, because I don't know what driver to use for my video card. If someone could tell me what driver to use, or if I there is a way could install Ubuntu 7.10, that would be great.
