I got Ubuntu 7.10 Live CD & tried to install in my PC. I have Sata 160 GB HDD and partioned as C,D,E,F,G,H and i have XP in C Drive and i tried to install ubuntu in H Drive which is empty.
I entered all the things and entered into manual partition on ubuntu installation of Step 4 then after completing all the steps it started to format the disks and copied the files but suddenly it stopped and showed me cd/dvd or HDD Drive error it may be due to dust or overheat installation doesn't continue. My HDD is formatted in EXT3 format and i cannot access my H Drive through XP.

Kindly help me to get back H Drive in Windows and help me to install Ubuntu.

Did you check the cd and the iso image hash?

One thought - you have too many partitions. Ubuntu needs a minimum of two partitions (one for the install and one for swap space) so if you are not manually assigning partitions, the installer is going to have a hard time finding space and know what to shrink (it's designed for people with one big C drive). If you manually assign partitions you will still have to reformat them to be the right file system for Ubuntu (usually ext3) and set one for root and one for swap.

Can you help with this problem?
